Hey guys! How’s it going?
Well, Super Bowl Weekend is upon us once again. The Big Game. The Game of Games. Super Duper Sunday… you get the idea. Well, it’s THIS Sunday, although a little different than in years past.
Now, I’ll admit, I’m not a huge football fan. I go through periods here and here but for the most part, it’s just not my sport really. Give me baseball, hockey and World Cup soccer (aka REAL football) any day. But this year is a little different. Why? Well, it’s being played here in Tampa Bay (where I live) and, my home team Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in it, representing the NFC (going against AFC champions and reigning Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs).
This is the first time in NFL history a team is playing on their own home field in the Super Bowl. This is also the first time in Tampa Bay sports history that all 3 of its pro sports teams made it to the final of their respective sport. The Tampa Bay Lightning won the 2020 Stanley Cup (their first since they won the Cup in 2004), The Tampa Bay Rays made it to the 2020 World Series (even though they didn’t win, they’re still the 2020 American League Champions & it was their 2nd World Series appearance, the first being in 2008)… and now the Buccaneers are in the Super Bowl. That’s pretty amazing when you think about it.

Now, the Buccaneers got a lot of bandwagon fans this season because of Tom Brady. Personally, I can’t stand the guy. I don’t like him as an athlete (am I the only one who remembers “Deflate Gate”?), and I don’t like him as a person (his political beliefs are, questionable, to say the least). But I like the Buccaneers, so I’ll be rooting for them as a TEAM, not just one player.

The Bucs were surprisingly good this past season. WAY better than I was expecting. They haven’t made a Super Bowl appearance since 2003 (and they won that one). But they’re going up against the defending Super Bowl champs, the Chiefs, lead by young Patrick Mahomes. That kid is good (I remember when he was in the Detroit Tigers minor league system… and he showed a lot pf promise in baseball too). We’ll see what happens on Sunday!
I saw this meme online and it gave me a pretty good laugh:
I’ll be watching the game. Safely at home. With my boyfriend and the cats. Probably eating BBQ and all sorts of gameday snacks. Cheering on the Buccaneers. Will you be watching? If so, who are you rooting for? The Bucs? The Chiefs? The commercials? The Halftime show?
